  • Can I chat through my condition with you on the phone first, to see if treatment will help?
Yes, of course you can. A brief consultation on the phone is often very helpful for both you and me. I am happy to talk to any new patients on the phone first and answer any questions you have.
  • Do I need to bring anything with me?
If you are taking any medication, please bring the details with you. If you have had any Scans, X-rays or have a written report from your doctor or specialist, it can be very helpful if I am able to see them. Don’t worry if you do not have them though!
  • What is the difference between Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists and Chiropractors?
This is not easy to answer in a few sentences. Many of the techniques’ used are similar and depending on the individual therapist there is much cross over. The main difference is in how the various professions view the body and evaluate the patient. Having been trained in a number of disciplines, I combine techniques to ensure that I review your skeletal structure along with muscular/soft tissue balance. Personally, I think it is important that you find a therapist you are comfortable with and can have faith in!
  • Does the treatment hurt?
Many of the techniques I use are very gentle. Sometimes soft tissue treatment can cause discomfort but I do my best to minimise this; I will always tell you what to expect. You may feel stiff or sore after treatment; this is normal and may last 24-48hrs.
  • Can I claim against my Insurance/Medical Policy?
The answer is likely to be YES. I am registered with most of the main insurers. Please let me know you wish to claim when we first speak.
  • How long is an appointment?
Your first appointment will take between 50-60mins. Follow up appointments last between 30-40mins.
  • How many treatments will I need?
This is very hard to answer until I have seen you. My aim is to get you back to full health as quickly as possible. As a general rule, the longer you have had the condition, the more treatments you may need. On average patients need 3-6 treatments. Alternatively, for those patients who have a long term or degenerative conditions, some visit me more regularly or a few times per year to avoid ‘flare ups’ or for a bit of an ‘MOT’.
  • What should I wear?
This does depend on your symptoms but it is likely that I will ask you to undress to your underwear (as long as you are comfortable with this!). To make a full assessment, it is very helpful if I can see your whole spine and posture. Running shorts or cycling shorts + a running top (for the ladies) are perfectly suitable.
  • Can I bring a friend or relative?
Yes, this is no problem at all.
  • Do I need to see my doctor first?
No you do not. However, I may refer you back to your GP if I feel that further tests are required or if I feel that your GP is better placed to give you the medical advice you require.
  • Do you treat babies or children?
I do not treat Babies as this is a specialist area. I treat children from the age of 14yrs, as long as Mum or Dad is present.
